10 Biggest Missed Opportunities From AEW So Far

1. The Booking Of Lance Archer

Lance Archer
AEW

Lance Archer is better than he’ll ever get credit for. He is a fantastic big man and despite being over 40, had the best year of his career in 2019. His G1 run was fantastic, impressing audiences worldwide with his brute strength and psychotic personality.

His first few weeks on Dynamite seemed to promise great things for Archer. He had a fantastic match with Dustin Rhodes which created a harrowing dynamic going into Double or Nothing, this cruel beast was challenging Dustin’s brother Cody for the inaugural TNT Title. Lance Archer simply couldn’t lose this, he needed it for the momentum he’d spent a year perfectly establishing.

He lost.

The match was structured in the opposite way to get a monster heel over, plagued with interference, going on way too long and ending with Archer losing meekly. Cody’s win was controversial, but at least lead somewhere with the acclaimed TNT title reign that ended with putting over Brodie Lee strong. But Archer was left aimless. Instead of being built up in the aftermath, he has gone back to occasional jobber squashes and a surprisingly competitive Joey Janela match.

Archer’s great on the mic and in the ring, he’s everything you could want in an antagonist. Yet, he’s the most fatal example of AEW’s limited booking when it comes to heels, and it’s unclear if he’ll ever get to recover.
