10 Biggest Regrets From Goldberg's WWE Career
9. Killing Kevin Owens at Fastlane 2017
The feud between best friends turned rivals Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens is one of the finest in recent memory. Only trouble is, it peaked with the celebrated Festival of Friendship. Everyone knows a story should peak at the end rather than in the middle but don’t blame Chris or Kev. The planned ending was taken away from them when Goldberg took the Universal Title off Owens.
With their individual auras and shared history at The Show of Shows, Brock and Bill didn’t need the belt for their ‘Mania match to feel big time. Goldberg definitely didn’t need to squash Universal Champion Kevin Owens in seconds. It neutered the carefully built Owens/Jericho feud just before the big payoff and marked the end of Owens’ best run in the company.
To be fair, given that he walked off with the title and straight into a brilliant ‘Mania moment of his own, it’s might be a stretch to say Bill truly regrets this one but he should. Long-term, taken in combination with certain other booking decisions, it harmed his reputation. Helping to create an image of Goldberg as a well-paid part-timer, keeping down guys who have more left to offer the business.
