10 Biggest Shocks In WWE WrestleMania History

While it’s true that WWE tend to write themselves into corners, at times they can write themselves out of them, too. It’s 2015 and against all common sense, the company had ended up with a main event of Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar. The former wasn’t clicking as the marquee babyface, and the latter was in mercenary mode.

The fans were ready to dismiss the match altogether, but the two men put on too good of a match for that; physical, smart, and exciting. Still, no matter who won, a large proportion of the crowd was going to reject it. That is until Seth Rollins’ music hits, and the former Shield man sprints to the ring clutching his battered Money In The Bank briefcase. A few stops later, he’s the new WWE champion, having pulled off the heist of the century.

Not only was it a proper surprise - we’d never seen a mid-’Mania match cash in before - it was exactly the right storytelling decision, one that woke the crowd up as the dusk drew in and gave them a proper “I was there” moment.
