10 Biggest Shocks In WWE WrestleMania History

2. Austin’s Deal With The Devil

Never has a WrestleMania been packed more full with thrills and spills than X-7, but they saved their biggest twist until the end. After an all-time great brawl between The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin to close the show, Vince McMahon came striding to the ring clutching a steel chair.

The animosity between Austin and McMahon was legendary, and the boss no doubt had malice in his mind - but few could have predicted that Vince would take the opportunity to side with his most hated foe, dish out shots to The Rock, and ultimately assist in Austin’s quest to seize the gold.

Austin and McMahon went on to form a team alongside Triple H, with the WWE owner concluding that he couldn’t beat the Rattlesnake, and choosing instead to join him. The fans couldn’t believe it, and it’s highlighted by the histrionic greatness of Jim Ross, bawling that Austin has made a deal with Satan himself.

The turn isn’t for everyone, with even Austin stating he wished he’d made the call to stun Vince instead of shaking his hand. There’s certainly something to that, but as dramatic choices go, this was bold stuff.
