10 Biggest Shocks In WWE WrestleMania History

4. Warrior Saves The Day

WrestleMania VIII is a lacklustre show on the whole, marred further by a terrible main event. Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice wouldn’t have been a classic had everything gone to plan - and it very much didn’t. A botched finish saw Papa Shango miss his cue, and the American hero Hogan triumph over the odds by winning via DQ.

The saving grace - and it’s not often this sentiment will be expressed - was Ultimate Warrior. As Hogan took a pummelling from the heels, Warrior’s music hit to the jubilation of fans. He sprinted to the ring, demonstrating a hustle that Shango sadly lacked, and made the save, giving the fans something to remember from the finale of the show.

Though wrestling scuttlebutt wasn’t so widespread back then, the reality was perhaps even more of a shock, with Warrior leaving the company under a cloud the previous summer after reputedly holding Vince McMahon up for more money. On this night, Warrior made his triumphant return, and all was forgiven until he left again a few months later.
