7. Dragon Lee Retains Junior Heavyweight Belt Over Taiji Ishimori
In the main event of Wrestling Dontaku's first night, Dragon Lee successfully defended his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against former title holder Taiji Ishimori. The Bone Soldier had previously lost the belt to Lee in a three-way match during the G1 Supercard event at Madison Square Garden--which also included Ring of Honor's Bandido.
Friday saw the two junior heavyweights battle tooth and nail for the top prize. Ishimori broke out his sliding German suplex and even a La Mistica--the signature move of Lee's older brother. However, the Desnucadora--a suplex into a powerbomb--from Lee finally ended the twenty-five minute war.
Following the successful defense, Lee dedicated his win to former champion Hiromu Takahashi--who he put on the injured list over a year ago after breaking his neck. Lee then continued, adding that the IWGP belt would be waiting for Hiromu upon his inevitable return. Interestingly, it's been speculated that Takahashi will be returning to competition sooner rather than later with the prevailing thought being he may possibly appear upon the conclusion of the upcoming Best of the Super Juniors tournament.
