10 Biggest Things WWE Stole From WCW
1. WrestleMania
Also known as the WWF's answer to Starrcade.
Jim Crockett Promotions, which would eventually lead into WCW, wanted to compete with the WWF's expansion into the world of cable television. Months were spent planning out and advertising JCP's biggest event of the year; Starrcade. After much televised promotion, the event took place on Thanksgiving in 1983 through closed-circuit television. Starrcade wasn't only a massive success, but the main reason closed-circuits became so common.
Around 18 months later, McMahon would strike back with his own massive event: WrestleMania. Hitting over one million viewers on closed-circuit television and pulling in nearly twenty-thousand at Madison Square Garden, WrestleMania I was an undeniable success. Vince soon realized how powerful this medium could be, and the rest is just about history.
Thanks to the influence of Starrcade, we now have "The Granddaddy of Them All", and in turn, one of the strangest nicknames for a pay-per-view ever.
