10 Biggest WCW Crowd Reactions Ever

6. The Streak Is Over

In modern professional wrestling, the word 'streak' means one of two things. It either refers to The Undertaker's legendary 21 match winning run at WrestleMania, or Goldberg's less verifiable but no less impressive 173 match string of victories after arriving in WCW. Both streaks came to an end, but both streaks live long in the professional wrestling memory.

What people often forget is that whilst the ending of The Undertaker's streak was met with shock and silence, Goldberg's first loss came with a very different reaction. After '173' matches crowds were somewhat tired of the formula, and many were clamouring for the streak to end. Did they want it to end via Scott Hall and a stun gun? Probably not, but beggars can't be choosers.

So when Kevin Nash hit a stunned Goldberg with the Jackknife Powerbomb and became the first man to defeat The Man in active competition, the crowd went wild. They had all witnessed history, and they knew it. Time has painted this in a less than glorious light, but at the time it was met with borderline euphoria.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
