Eddie Guerrero was a deeply troubled individual, but that was part of his appeal. His flaws made him relatable, and coupled with his incredible skillset, helped make him one of the most universally beloved figures in wrestling history.

His 2005 passing was one of wrestling’s saddest moments. Eddie’s addiction struggles were well-documented, but it looked like he’d kicked them, and he became one of WWE’s biggest stars during the original Brand Split. His WWE Championship win in February 2004 was one of the most emotional title victories in wrestling history, and Guerrero was fast becoming a key player in WWE.

Had he lived, Eddie would have eventually retired as a multi-time WWE Champion. He was reportedly booked to reclaim the belt prior to his passing, and WWE planned to have him face Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 22. Together, they’d have torn the house down, and their match would likely be remembered as one of the best in ‘Mania history.

Eddie’s name will always bring back fond memories, but he’d have surely reached legendary status had his career lasted another 5 or 6 years. Though he struggled with the spotlight’s pressures, he was always adored, even when working heel, and with The Rock and Steve Austin long out of the picture, he’d have anchored the company.
