8. Fandango Defeats Chris Jericho - WrestleMania 29
WrestleMania is often the perfect stage for an established talent to put over an upcoming new star. An upset victory can provide a launchpad for young workers to propel themselves into the eye of a gargantuan audience, giving them a precious surge of momentum to carry into the summer. Fandango's victory over Chris Jericho is not an example of this. Several factors combined to ensure that the newcomer's victory went over like a damp squib. First and foremost: he won with a cheap roll-up, immediately coming across as a typically lucky, weak heel. The fact that this was Fandango's in-ring debut only worsens such an unsatisfactory finish - a hard-fought loss would have done far more for him than scoring such an unconvincing win. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, he simply did not match up to Y2J. Jericho, a universally admired figure among WWE fans, was so far out of Fandango's league that the result seemed more baffling than shocking. Matching the rookie with a similarly established, but less beloved superstar would have perhaps been a wiser move. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=norM322C9WA
