10 BIGGEST Wrestling Events Ever
1. Collision In Korea 1995
This infamous show is a double entry.
For two nights in 1995, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling combined to show fans in North Korea the best of both companies.
Antonio Inoki thought of the event, having moved into Japanese politics in 1989. He'd been to Iraq to meet Saddam Hussein and host a wrestling show there, so the closed off nation of North Korea would surely be a walk in the park. In the end it was a walk with handlers at all times. As soon as the NJPW and WCW staff landed, they were accompanied on a tour of Pyongyang, then taken to their hotel to prepare for the show.
Collision in Korea took place at the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, the largest stadium in the world by capacity. It's no surprise that night one brought 150,000 fans, with 165,000 showing up the next day to watch Inoki take on Ric Flair in the main event. Even Muhammad Ali appeared as guest of honour; it was a big deal, so Kim Jong Il wanted Inoki to pull out all the stops.
With it being Inoki's event, he went over Flair to close the show. Flair was then encouraged to read a statement agreeing that North Korea had the power to invade the United States. He declined and declared that he'd just performed in a beautiful and peaceful country instead.
Despite being the largest wrestling event of all-time, it's still not available on the WWE Network. Vince McMahon owns the rights to it, but for now it's hidden away in the vaults of Titan Towers.
