7. The Controversies Surrounding Paige
Prior to returning to television last month, 2017 had been a rather tumultuous year for Paige.
Already sidelined with a neck injury, the former Divas champion made headlines in July when she was caught up in a domestic violence incident involving her fiancee, Alberto El Patron, at Orlando International Airport.
Eventually, Paige publicly admitted that she’d been the one being held on battery charges, and though she wasn’t charged, it seemed likely she’d be facing punishment from WWE. That led to many jumping the gun and speculating that Paige, already off TV and engaged to the then-GFW Champion, could be on the verge of being fired by the company.
Of course, there was the small matter of a $17.5million movie deal to factor into the equation, with Paige set to star in a film about her life, produced by the Rock and directed by Stephen Merchant.
With that in the pipeline, it was unlikely Paige was ever going to be fired - and rather than being dismissed, as some had predicted, she’s since returned to the fold and is enjoying quite the push in her new Absolution faction.
