Broadly speaking, the reactions to Baron Corbin’s Money in the Bank win in June of this year fell into one of two categories. On one side of the fence, you had fans looking forward to him cashing in for a title shot that some felt he deserved, while on the other you had plenty of heads in hands at the thought of a main event picture featuring a pair of undesirables in Jinder Mahal and Baron Corbin.

Either way, the general consensus was that Corbin was headed for the main event at some point or another. And though he did eventually get his title shot, it was over in a matter of seconds.

WWE tore the script to pieces in having Corbin cash-in for Mahal’s WWE title and lose almost immediately after a roll-up off a distraction.

Admittedly, the swerve had been something of a change of plan after Corbin allegedly found himself in hot water after a backstage incident with Dr. Joseph Maroon. But even so, it meant that everyone who’d jumped to conclusions in touting – both favourably and otherwise – Corbin’s imminent main event run was made to eat their words.
