10 Biggest Wrestling Promo Botches
9. Benoit On Raven
In spite of his presence and intensity, Chris Benoit was never known as a promo man. To find out why, take this example from Starrcade 1997 when the Canadian Crippler emerged with mic in hand prior to his match with Perry Saturn and cut a promo on Saturn's cult-like overlord, ECW alumnus Raven.
"Quoth the Crippler, no more," began Benoit - so he was off to a bad start because the quote he was referencing used 'nevermore' instead. "I don't look at reality through any veil," he continued irrelevantly, "nor do I see the truth through any... any veil."
If Benoit had any script memorised, it was at the this moment he forgot it.
"It is what it is, things are as the are, and I am who I am. When I rest, I rest in reason. When I move, I move with passion and there's nothing I feel more passionate about... than infict... inflicting pain... on the Raven."
The stumbling, nonsensical speech could only be topped by Dusty Rhodes, who promptly did so by adding "Well, he spelled that out," as if welcoming Benoit into his special club for purveyors of on-mic gibberish.
