Hogan's classic promos, with the 26-inch-pythons and exhortations to millions of little Hulkamaniacs, helped build a terrifyingly potent legacy. But when Hogan messed up, he really messed up. And on the 6 March 2003 Smackdown, he messed up.

Vince McMahon and the Hulkster engaged in a bout of verbal face-punching, and the the wheels came off so badly the WWE Network edits out the fat-lipped word-mangling that followed.

"If you actually think I was the right guy, and the right place, and the wrong.. at the right time.. let me say it one more time so you completely understand, McMahon. If you actually believe in your mind, if you actually think, that I was the right gay... guy... at the right place at the right time..."

Vince looked on stunned as Hogan somehow got even worse. "And you know something? I had a match with you a couple of... I had a..."

Hogan gave up completely and wandered around the ring for a bit, trying to find some island of comprehensibility to cling to. He finally challenged Vince to a match after about ten minutes of tedium capped with a few moments of inspired catastrophe, and the WWE Universe never let him forget it.
