10 Biggest Wrestling Scandals Of The 1980s
2. The Death Of Nancy Argentino
When 'Superfly' Jimmy Snuka died in 2017, WWE hailed him as a hero. While it's true that he was a huge star who helped innovate the wrestling business, this tribute omitted an entire sinister portion of his life.
Nancy Argentino was a young woman who was dating the married Snuka in 1983. On May 10th, the wrestler called for an ambulance to attend to his injured mistress. Argentino died that same night, at the age of just 23.
Reports showed that Argentino had died when her head had smashed into a blunt object. Coroners also found numerous cuts and bruises all over her body. Snuka had previously been arrested for assaulting Argentino mere months before her death. To many observers, it was clear what had happened. Stunningly, despite being the only suspect, Snuka was not charged with Argentino's death. By the time charges were filed against him in 2015, he was in such poor health that prosecution was almost impossible.
The brutal death of a young woman is enough of a tragedy, but the facts surrounding it make the whole thing even worse. Many believe that Snuka literally got away with murder.
