4. Eddie Guerrero’s Death
Eddie Guerrero wasn't the first high-profile wrestler to die young and, sadly, he wasn't the last. However, the circumstances surrounding his death are nothing short of heart-breaking.
The WWE Hall of Famer had a history of addiction. He was actually released by the company in 2001, following an arrest for drink driving. This was the wake-up call he needed to get sober, but the damage had already been done.
On November 13th 2005, Eddie was found unconscious in his hotel room by his nephew Chavo. He later died of acute heart failure at the age of just 38. At the time of his death, he was in the middle of a storyline that would have seen him become World Heavyweight Champion.
The nature of Eddie Guerrero's death forced WWE to take a long, hard look at themselves. It contributed to the introduction of the Wellness policy just three months later, and it remains a cautionary tale about the dangers of the business.
