10 Biggest WWE Creative Mistakes Of 2020

6. Otis Wins The Money In The Bank Briefcase

Otis plays a role, and he plays it quite well.

He is an affable fellow, even if his courtship of Mandy Rose verged on the creepy at times. There's a peculiar quality to his comedy, in that it's not remotely funny but does conspire to raise a dumb grin, and he's pretty damn good lugging his belly about to get his hoss sequences over before he even powers into the slabs of beef on the other side of the ring.

But it's second match comedy.

Otis was awarded with the Money In The Bank briefcase in 2020, and the very notion of his cashing it in illustrated the idea that he shouldn't have. Braun Strowman was a face. That would have diluted his fleeting appeal. And then, when a resurgent Roman Reigns captured the Universal Title at Payback, it brought into starker focus just how far removed Otis is as a main event-level talent. Reaching the inevitable conclusion of the passé trope and how much Vince has lost interest in it, Otis was barely involved for two months between June and July. He wasn't buried every week, so there's that!

The Otis run - which WWE just bantered off - illuminated just how close the geeks are to the headliners in a muddied roster booked into arbitrary oblivion.
