9. Roman Reigns vs Big E
Survivor Series 2021 was something of a mess, with little build and the usual Raw vs Smackdown nonsense it’s tough to care about at the best of times. The bright spark was Roman Reigns taking on one of the company’s most organic babyfaces, Big E, in a champion vs champion match.
And it was… OK! It was fine, not a bad match at all, one of the best on the card. But by no means was it an epic showdown, like we’ve seen from Survivor Series of old. In recent years Brock Lesnar vs AJ Styles and vs Daniel Bryan were instant classics, and Reigns’ scrap with McIntyre last year had this one beat.
It didn’t help that the build was half-hearted, focusing heavily on Reigns putting on Xavier Woods’ King Of The Ring crown for some reason. And at the end of it all, the Smackdown heel beat Big E clean, thus thoroughly establishing the pecking order for anyone watching.
Shenanigans are massively overused in WWE, but if there was any time it would have been appropriate, it was here. While Big E is beloved, he hasn't looked amazingly strong thus far, and a quite good match against Reigns which he lost decisively did little of note for either man.
