10 Biggest WWF vs WCW Firing Shots During Monday Night Wars
8. Fake Diesel And Fake Razor Ramon
When Scott Hall and Kevin Nash left the WWF in 1996, they triggered a revolution in WCW when they started the New World Order and turned that promotion around almost overnight. Back in the WWF, things weren't as great. Vince McMahon's company was suffering from a total lack of interest due to a roster that wrestling fans totally ignored. The departure of Nash and Hall was just salt in the wound as the WWF lost two of its top stars to its biggest competitor. However, a few weeks after Hall and Nash's debut on WCW television, Jim Ross proclaimed on Raw that Razor Ramon and Diesel would be returning to the WWF. To say wrestling fans were shocked would be an understatement. Even WCW management thought something was up. Even though Hall and Nash assured Turner executives that they weren't leaving, WCW wasn't taking any chances. They shoved brand new contracts in Hall and Nash's faces that increased their pay and time off even though they had zero intentions of returning to Vince McMahon. http://youtu.be/ynSySQdjcGQ?t=1m34s When Razor Ramon and Diesel debuted as Ross had promised, wrestling fans were instantly upset. These were not Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, they were impostors. In reality, the role of Diesel was played by Glen Jacobs, better known as Kane today, and Razor Ramon was portrayed by Rick Bognar, a journeyman wrestler who had marginal success in Japan. To say the gimmick flopped would be an extreme understatement. Fans hated the fake characters and they were off of television shortly after their debut.
