10 Most Bizarre Wrestler Guest Appearances On TV Shows
6. King Kong Bundy On Married With Children
The man who the main characters were named after appeared twice on the show that helped establish the Fox Network. Where it gets dicey is how they're not connected. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fo4niG97FY Bundy first appeared on the show in 1988, early in its run, in the episode "All In The Family," where he's Uncle Irwin, part of the family. That he's a relative on Peg's side means he's not playing himself (unless you want to speculate that he picked out her married name for his ring name), but it's a very memorable guest spot because King Kong Bundy is appearing as a relative of the family that was named after him. He obviously got the gig specifically because he was King Kong Bundy, but he does a good job in the episode, showing solid comedic timing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9YWMoYIB3E At the time "All In The Family" aired, Bundy had temporarily retired from wrestling. He was a headliner for most of his career up to that point and had also done well in outside ventures, including an ad for the Vendex Head Start computer. His second appearance came in 1995, right after he returned. This time, he played professional wrestler King Kong Bundy. Uncle Irwin was forgotten. Look, nobody expects much continuity from a show like Married with Children. It was a relatively lowbrow sitcom without long-term story arcs. But this? Shows like Married with Children reuse actors in new roles all the time, but he stood out like a sore thumb here. Why couldn't Uncle Irwin have come back? Why couldn't Uncle Irwin be a wrestler?
