10 Celebrities You Didn't Know Are Wrestling Fans

4. Andy Warhol

This one may be a case of wishful thinking, but it’s certainly fun to imagine the pioneer of pop art as a wrestling fan. Warhol’s crossover with the world of sports entertainment came in 1985, when he was briefly interviewed by Mene Gene Okerlund at at MTV-aired WWF event.

Warhol, in his usual get up, stuck out like a sore thumb in the locker room (though he and Hogan actually had somewhat similar hair), and he did not give the most compelling of soundbites. At Gene’s urging, he describes the show as “so exciting”, though his deadpan tone could bely layers of irony.

On the other hand, it’s not so hard to imagine Warhol, a man who loved the blending of high and low culture and all things kitsch, to get a kick out of wrestling, especially in its gaudy mid-’80s iteration. Reports suggest he could frequently be found at Madison Square Garden (though producers wisely interviewed him just the once).

Whether this was a one time deal or just the only recorded evidence of Warhol’s fandom, it’s much more gratifying to imagine the artistic impresario as a grappling enthusiast, so we’ll go with that.
