10 Characters WWE Gave Up On Way Too Soon

1. Owen Hart's Black Hart

The 'Montreal Screwjob' happened 20 years ago and gave birth to one of WWE's best ever heels. Vince McMahon's newfound unpopularity paved the way for his feud with a red hot Steve Austin, but it should have created another top babyface. Owen Hart was ready, willing, and able to fill that role.

His brother Bret had just been screwed over by McMahon and Shawn Michaels, so it made sense when Owen attacked the WWF Champ after the main event of In Your House: D-Generation X. Fans went wild as Owen, rebranded the 'Black Hart', acted like a mercenary up against all odds. It wouldn't last long.

This was a missed opportunity for the WWF. People would easily have bought into the premise of Owen trying to take Shawn's WWF Title to shove it right back in Vince's face. That plan was ignored in favour of having Hart feud with Triple H over the lowly European Title, before he eventually joined The Nation.

Talk about squandering something potentially excellent.
