8. Taking Chances On Midcard Talent

Upon listening to Vince McMahon's comments on the Steve Austin podcast, it's clear that the main power figure in WWE doesn't exactly think the world of his talent roster. If his words are taken at face value, McMahon was challenging his locker room to step up and take the proverbial bull by the horns, noting that men such as Austin, Triple H and The Rock had done so previously. Indeed, McMahon is critical of his current crop of talent, interestingly stating that John Cena was the last to force his way into superstardom. Exactly what was this statement supposed to achieve? Quite rightly, many members of the WWE roster must now be scratching their heads, wondering how on earth they're supposed to achieve in a world of such start-stop booking - if the creative team and Vince don't buy most of them are headliners, how can the audience be expected to? Perhaps the best way to alleviate this problem is to take more chances on the glut of wrestlers currently occupying the midcard. Vince is right, WWE is a different animal to the one during the 'Attitude Era', but the same principles still apply. If the company themselves don't see the roster as having limitless potential, and - more crucially - pull the trigger on that potential, then the chances of creating bankable main event talent is severely limited.
