10 Classic WCW And ECW Storylines WWE Could Reboot

3. Goldberg€™s Push

WWE.comWWE.comThe short version of the 'Goldberg push' is that they kept him undefeated in short matches. As he didn't have much in-ring experience at the time, this meant that they could disguise his shortcomings while at the same time giving him valuable match time. They kept everyone updated on the length of his streak, even including house shows. He got over in a huge way, which was subsequently ruined by some bizarre booking, but the push itself worked like a charm. The WWE have tried this several times and it hasn't really worked - primarily because the fans chant 'Goldberg' every time this sort of angle takes place. Ryback was almost the 'new' Goldberg, but he was derailed by being put in the main event too soon by the WWE booking team. There is currently a new version of the 'Goldberg push' taking place - with Rusev being the wrestler in question. He is winning short matches and slowly climbing the roster. So this evidently still works as an idea. As long as they don't use it very two or three months, then can use this concept once a year for a wrestler that they have high hopes for and then allow them to sink or swim.
