10 Consequences Of Ronda Rousey Losing Her UFC Championship

2. There's An Opening At The Top

Not all consequences need be negative. One positive factor is this: Even if Rousey is gone a while, and even if she loses her rematch with Holm (which is very possible, given the events of their first bout), women's MMA is here to stay. Ronda Rousey proved it is viable, and that it could be more popular than men's MMA, which is a rarity in the sports world. So there's an opening at the top. Holly Holm will be one factor, but the biggest star in the women's division doesn't necessarily have to be the champion. Miesha Tate will be in the running, as she always is, but arguably, the biggest crossover star in MMA outside of Rousey right now is Paige VanZant, who headlines her first show in December. If she wins, she could very well be on her way to super-stardom as well. The key, however, is to keep winning.
