Who remembers when NXT UK was a breeding ground for the next generation?

Fans in the United Kingdom has been crying out for a way to see the best grapplers from its indie scene have a path towards success in the world's most famous wrestling company. It may have killed off a lot of smaller brands on its way to becoming a reality, but NXT UK was a pathway to greatness for superstars like Ilja Dragunov, Gunther, and Toni Storm. A certain mami Rhea Ripley was the inaugural NXT UK Women's Champion too.

WWE announced in 2022 that NXT UK would be going on hiatus, while plans for NXT Europe were revealed. First it was coming in 2023, but then WWE merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship to become TKO Group Holdings and NXT Europe didn't happen.

According to Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plans are to launch NXT Europe in 2024 but so far nothing's happened. Everything's gone quiet, even though WWE is doing more shows than ever before in Europe. They could've announced it at Money in the Bank... but they didn't. What about to try and overshadow All Elite Wrestling hosting All In at Wembley Stadium? Nope. They didn't even mention it when they picked France to host Backlash.

There's rumblings on Reddit that WWE might pull the plug on the whole thing. If they do, it'd anger a lot of UK fans who lost their NXT brand for nothing. Let's hope WWE gives the people what they want.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
