These days, Brian James is a backstage producer and a part of the creative process for the NXT brand, with the one-time Intercontinental Champion also helping at the Performance Center with the promo side and character development element of the business.

Before that, however, Road Dogg served as the lead writer on the SmackDown brand. That was until the D-O-Double G resigned from that position in the aftermath of WrestleMania 35, with many speculating that James had completely left the company before his new NXT role was revealed.

Again citing Wade Keller's Pro Wrestling Torch podcast as a reference, many of the current WWE writing team fully expect Road Dogg to make his way to All Elite Wrestling at some point in the future.

One has to imagine that working alongside his buddies Triple H and Shawn Michaels in NXT right now is an enjoyable gig for the WWE Hall of Famer, but maybe AEW has a little more to offer Brian James and he could follow in the footsteps of Arn Anderson and Dean Malenko - who seem to both be having a blast working backstage for AEW after their stints in WWE came to a close.

Likewise, a move to AEW would also give Road Dogg the chance to once more work with his long-time friend and tag team partner Billy Gunn, who is these days employed by All Elite Wrestling as both a trainer and an on-screen talent.
