10 Disappointing Wrestling Reveals That Let EVERYBODY Down

6. Savio Vega Replaces Shawn Michaels (In Texas)

Shawn Michaels may have been a notorious diva, but there's no denying that he was every bit the mega-star he thought he was. As such, when he had to bow out of 1998's No Way Out of Texas PPV it was a crushing blow for WWE fans - especially as it was to be held in Michaels' home state.

As you likely guessed, WWE opted to soften the blow by promising a worthy replacement. And - yep, you guessed again - that replacement's reveal dampened fan enthusiasm faster than a King Charles cameo in a porn movie. ("Lie down and think of England while I get my upper lip stiff").

For context, fans had no idea Michaels wouldn't be appearing until the day of the PPV. This meant they were already disgruntled when the show started, and when Savio Vega - a decent worker, but a perennial midcarder - walked through the door, the unfortunate wrestler was showered with boos.

One of wrestling's many maxims is to under-promise and over-deliver, and its safe to say that swapping the Heartbreak Kid for a man best known as the runner-up to the worst ever King of the Ring did exactly the opposite.
