10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Were Huge Disappointments

5. John Cena vs The Rock - Wrestlemania 28/29

While The Rock was the face of the WWE back in the 2000's, there's no doubt that this decade and most of last has been defined by the ubiquitous presence of John Cena. As such, it's not surprising that these two meeting in the ring would be a big deal. After a years worth of promotion, build-up and anticipation after Wrestlemania XXVII, the two clashed at Wrestlemania XXVIII. The problem with this match-up is, neither man is a great technician, or an amazing wrestler by any means. Sure, John Cena and The Rock are no doubt two of the best performers in the history of wrestling, they can certainly tell a story and have charisma, but when it comes to the wrestling component, the two don't really suit. John Cena has had his best matches with opponents who are fantastic in-ring performers like Shawn Michaels or CM Punk, while the very same can be said for The Rock. The match was fairly average, the pace made a lot slower by The Rock, as he seemed to be out of shape. As you'd expect it was a fairly slow wrestling match, a variety of finishers were exchanged towards the end until The Rock eventually won. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCtbmHOcrUc The match was okay, but made much worse when WWE decided to replicate the exact same match at Wrestlemania XXVIIII, but with the WWE title on the line. The finish was made immediately obvious by it being a WWE Title match, as if The Rock was ever going to stay and defend his championship, if he won. General opinion is that the match was pretty much the same and didn't need a part two. While the anticipation, hype and build were all there, both matches were somewhat disappointing.
