10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Were Huge Disappointments
4. Bret Hart vs Hollywood Hogan - WCW Monday Nitro, 1998
Much like many dream matches, this one contains two major faces of the same company who were dominant in different eras. Hogan was top dog in the late eighties and early nineties, while Bret ushered in the new generation that lasted until the Attitude Era. Unlike other WCW dream matches on this list, this wasn't a result of WCW drawing from WWF's older playbook as this match hadn't actually happened before. According to Hart, the two were set to wrestle at Summerslam '93, but Hogan refused as he didn't like the finish, instead he lost the WWF Championship at King of the Ring to Yokozuna. WCW didn't seem to realize there was any desire for this match, as it aired on TV with no promotion and virtually no build, when it could have been a decent pay-per-view main event. The match saw Hart and Hogan wrestle for about five minutes, until Hart sustained an injury. Sting substituted, when the match was revealed to be a ruse as Hart then joined the NWO. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQKVtxXN51s WCW missed out on what could have been a great match-up, but instead it was just a cheap tease as yet another key talent joined the stale ranks of the NWO.
