10 Dumbest Decisions Made By Seemingly Intelligent Wrestlers
2. Triple H Tries To Manipulate The Animal
As the man himself would probably put it, 'it's all about the game and how you play it'.
Well, Triple H could have probably used a polite reminder of those famous lyrics when he drew up his grand plan to keep the hungry 'Animal' Batista away from his beloved World Heavyweight Championship in 2005.
Sensing that the mountain of muscle had started to become a realistic threat to his reign as Raw's champion, The Game tried to convince big Dave not to partake in that year's Royal Rumble match - alluding to it being a selfish decision to try and extinguish his mentor's run.
Batista didn't listen. He instead went on to win the titular match and earned himself a main event title shot at WrestleMania 21. Triple H then decided that he would try to convince 'The Animal' to jump ship to SmackDown by enacting the cunning plan of having a limousine (similar to that of WWE Champion JBL's usual mode of transport) try to run over Batista.
Unbeknown to the Evolution leader, Batista had overheard this plot and would exact his revenge by challenging Triple H for his belt at 'Mania - after Batista Bombing him through a table, of course.
If 'The Cerebral Assassin' had just played his cards a little closer to his chest, then this comedy of errors may have never unfolded and he could have continued his storied reign as the overlord of Monday Night Raw.
He didn't, and 'The Animal' usurped the 'King of Kings' as the new World Heavyweight Champion at the event.
