10 Dumbest Decisions Made By Seemingly Intelligent Wrestlers
1. Ric Flair Decides To Wrestle Mr.WrestleMania With His Career On The Line
From one badly thought out former Evolution member's plan to another. This stupid choice didn't just end in the loss of a world title: it led to the killing of one of the greatest careers in wrestling history.
We're talking of course about Ric Flair's god awful idea to opt for a match against the 'Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania, of all places.
Towards the end of his run as an active performer in WWE, one of the most tactically astute talents in the company's history had been wrestling every match with the added stipulation of a loss meaning that the 'Nature Boy' would be forced to retire.
He'd managed to survive against the likes of Randy Orton, Triple H, Umaga, Mr. Kennedy and even the boss himself, Vince McMahon. So, if Flair really wanted to continue doing the thing he loved more than anything else in the world, why, oh why would he happily choose Michaels - a man synonymous with outstanding performances at 'Mania - as the man he wanted to face at the Show of Shows?
Sure, he knew Michaels would bring the best out of him and the match could go down as one of the best ever. But, if you were a professional boxer and you knew that you'd be forced to retire after your next loss, would you choose to fight Mike Tyson in his prime?
Flair would ultimately lose this emotional match at 'Mania XXIV and Michaels had to live with that scalp for the rest of his career. Yet, if Flair had tapped into his infamously streetwise playbook and put himself in a match against a lesser talent, he could have lived to 'woo!' another day.
