10 Dumbest Decisions Of WWE’s Attitude Era

5. The Treatment Of Trish Stratus

The treatment of women in during The Attitude Era would be enough to fill an entire list of stupid decisions during The Attitude Era. The pillow fights, evening gown matches and the regrettable Miss Royal Rumble bikini contest from 2000 were all demeaning and demoralising but nothing was worse than WWE and Vince McMahon€™s on-screen treatment of Trish Stratus. Trish Stratus was a bikini and fitness model from Toronto who had a huge passion for wrestling. She joined WWF in 1999 and was sent to learn the basics of the business before debuting in early 2000 as the villainous manager of Test & Albert. She slowly got more ring time and would eventually go on to be one of the greatest women€™s wrestlers in mainstream professional wrestling, but it was her time with Vince McMahon in early 2001 that has her on this list. She engaged in an on-screen relationship with McMahon while his wife Linda was institutionalised following Vince€™s demand for a divorce. The two would cavort in public leading to a feud with Stephanie McMahon. Along with Comissioner William Regal, the father/daughter duo would set Trish up and humiliate her on national television by dumping sewage on her. The next week, in the most memorable of these segments, she was forced to strip to her lingerie and bark like a dog for Vince€™s amusement. While this did end with Trish getting her revenge on Stephanie and Vince by teaming up with Linda McMahon, it doesn€™t excuse the gross sexism and misogyny of the previous weeks of television. It€™s not surprising that when Linda McMahon ran for office a few years ago, WWE made a point of removing footage of this angle from the internet, lest it be used against her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64hMwfZEVaI
