The 'Montreal Screwjob' accidentally turned Vince McMahon into one of wrestling's greatest ever heels. The Mr. McMahon character helped fan the flames of the Attitude Era, all because McMahon had screwed Bret Hart out of the WWF Title on his way out of the company. It's funny how things turn out.

Not funny was Hart's revenge at WrestleMania XXVI. Almost 13 years after the 1997 Survivor Series and a full decade on from his in-ring retirement, the Canadian hero looked positively ruthless as he bashed McMahon with a steel chair. Around ringside, Bret's family cheered him on and enjoyed watching Hart stick it to the boss.

This was meant to be the ultimate payback, both for Hart and the fans. Unfortunately for WWE, watching a pensioner wobble around the ring and beg for the punishment to stop had people sitting on their hands. People felt sorry for Vince, an unthinkable outcome for the match beforehand, but one that had come true due to the one-sided beating.

Oops.
