10 Essential Jay Briscoe Matches

3. The Briscoes Vs. El Generico And Kevin Steen (ROH Man Up)

Although the Young Bucks are often looked upon as the Briscoes' leading rivals, you could easily swap out the brothers Jackson for El Generico and Kevin Steen.

The Briscoes and 'Steenerico', as they were affectionately referred to, had consistently great chemistry together, as evidenced by their immaculate 2007 ROH feud. This reached its conclusion at Man Up in the inaugural Ladder War - and what a battle it was.

Highlighted by world-class selling from all four combatants, the match was well laid out as each spot got its opportunity to breathe before the next one arrived. It was a near-perfect example of the hardcore formula that played such a vital role during this era of ROH. There was a double hip toss through a ladder. A Powerbomb onto a ladder that saw Mark Briscoe's back graze the ring apron and barricade-propped ladder before thudding to the floor. Both a package Piledriver and a Jay Driller through separate ladders. Kevin Steen fell off a ladder, landing on its side on his way down in an unintentional spot that heightened the drama and intensity of the match.

Nothing better told the story, however, than when Jay Briscoe pulled down the World Tag Team titles. Kevin Steen, within reach of the titles, gave in, falling off the ladder as the quest for gold was over.

An unqualified success that led to the Briscoes becoming legends of the stipulation.
