10 False Wrestling Facts You Probably Believe

5. Vince McMahon Wanted Young Blood In The Mid '90s

You've heard the rhetoric - Vince was no longer interested in promoting the stars of the 1980s in the 1990s - and you even saw it substantiated, what with Randy Savage relegated to the commentary booth in 1993.

It was undermined by Bob Backlund appearing on the shows he called, and the Roddy Piper Vs. Jerry Lawler King Of The Ring 1994 main event, but it's Vince. He's the ultimate carny. You'd be foolish not to catch a whiff of some bullsh*t. And mostly, he strutted his talk, building his ailing company around Bret Hart, Diesel, Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker in a bid to recover it for the long-term. The New Generation marketing was not effective, really, but nor was it inaccurate.

The stark reality is that Vince resorted to it, because he had to be pay cheap, and he hardly held himself to its nonexistent code. He talked with Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan in 1996, offering the latter a tremendous sum of money to come back. Birds of a feather flock together - they're both bodybuilding racists who'd shag their daughters - except when the federal government causes a wedge between them, and with residual tensions simmering, the big reconciliation could not happen until 2002.

He'd have dropped Boyhood Dreamer Shawn Michaels with the big leg, though, had he walked back through that door.
