It's fair to say that Sting's pre-retirement AEW run was a million miles better than his WWE one between 2014-2015. A promising start at Survivor Series 2014 proved to be a false dawn for the ex-WCW and TNA icon. He lost his only two pay-per-view matches under the WWE banner to Triple H and Seth Rollins.

His old WCW running mates couldn't believe it.

Scott Hall revealed during interviews after the fact that he, Hulk Hogan and Kevin Nash stared at one another in disbelief when they found out Stinger would be staring at the lights for Trips during his debut match. They figured a savvy veteran like Sting might seek assurances that he'd be used properly by the company.

Being fair, fans were in the same boat as the original nWo lads. Beating Sting at 'Mania made no sense whatsoever, especially when he was so new to the WWE product and the McMahon family had been chasing him since WCW's demise. Apparently, Stinger was neither offered nor wanted any creative control.
