If one wants an idea of just how badly WWE was curb-stomping WCW by the summer of 1999, the PPV numbers will provide a very clear window.

The King of the Ring did excellent business, being bought in 430,000 homes, which is a number that McMahon would have sold his possibly-non-existent soul for a few years back, before the WWE Network changed everything. While that 430,000 number looked fat and happy, things in WCW were nowhere near as rosy.

The Great American Bash took place two weeks before King of the Ring, and in addition to being a crappy show, it was only bought in 185,000 homes. The Bash at the Beach (two weeks after King of the Ring) was an even crappier show, and did an even worse total, with 175,000 buys.

In all, the two WCW shows combined for 360,000 buys, which together is still 16 percent less than what WWE raked in for the most feeble of their Big Five shows.
