10 Fascinating WWE King Of The Ring 2000 Facts
9. All 31 Tournament Matches Were Under Ten Minutes Apiece
Compressing 31 tournament matches (seven on pay-per-view, 24 scattered across weekly television) in less than one month's time gives way to another kind of compression: that of the matches themselves.
The longest tournament match was the quarterfinal pitting Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho, which lasted nine minutes and 50 seconds. By no small coincidence, it was the best tournament match, next to Val Venis' quarterfinal win over Eddie Guerrero, which clocked in at 8:04.
Only two of the qualifiers broke the five-minute barrier, and they both coincidentally involved Edge: his round-of-32 win over Grand Masta Sexay (5:12), and his round-of-16 loss to Jericho (5:30).
The 1994 version is the only other show to not have a single match from the quarterfinals onward surpass ten minutes, but did have two qualifiers that topped that mark. This makes 2000 the only King of the Ring to not have any form of tournament match, qualifier or not, break the ten minute mark. With 31 matches needing to be fought, it's easier to understand why.
