"The Heartbreak Kid" has stayed true to his word after retiring in 2010, and has not worked a match since WrestleMania 26. The multi-time champion went out with a classic match at the age of 44, and has nothing left to prove inside the ring.

That hasn't stopped WWE from apparently trying to coax him back into the squared circle. Reports came out shortly before the 2016 Rumble that the company was attempting to get Michaels to take part in the Rumble match. With injuries to the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, and others, WWE likely felt they were light on bigger names, and wanted to throw in something truly memorable for the Rumble event.

Ric Flair was one of those who made the claim about WWE wanting Michaels, but noted, "...he ain't budging from that ranch down there in Texas.""
