10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 2016 Facts
7. It Had The First Cruiserweight Title Match At A Big Four PPV In More Than A Decade
You may feel this is a bit of a cheat, since the Cruiserweight belt had lain dormant from the summer of 2007 through the early fall of 2016. However, when you dig deeper into this fact, it underscores just how little value WWE saw in the belt the first time around.
Brian Kendrick and Kalisto's Cruiserweight title match at the 2016 Survivor Series was the first such match at any Big Four PPV since Gregory Helms won a six-way battle for the strap at the 2006 Royal Rumble.
To hammer home the point a bit more, none of the Big Four events in 2005 had any Cruiserweight title matches. If the 2006 Rumble was without a Cruiserweight title match, then the previous instance would have been the 2004 Survivor Series, in which Spike Dudley retained the gold in a four-way match. Clearly from 2005-07, the belt was all but gold-non-grata.
