10 "Foreign" Wrestlers Who Weren't Really Foreign At All
8. Lord Tensai
After years of failed attempts to capture the Japanese viewing market, WWE took another swing by bringing back a tried-and-true performer, Albert, who had made a name for himself in New Japan. Even though he was American, and everyone knew he was American, WWE repackaged him as a Japanese brute, Lord Tensai.
When WWE introduced Tensai to its audience by way of a 2012 vignette, the company clearly hoped the fans wouldn't realise it was the same man who cut his teeth in 1999 working under a moniker that is another name for a male genitals piercing. They did.
Having worked with the company as the aforementioned Prince Albert, Albert and A-Train for five years before his famed career in Japan, it's amazing that WWE thought fans wouldn't recognise Tensai.
Originally planned for a huge heel run, Tensai was literally dancing in lingerie on Raw less than a year after his debut. The following Tons of Funk tag team with Brodus Clay wasn't much better.
