Sidenote: if anyone ever finds themselves going cold on Michael Cole as WWE's lead announcer, step back in time via the Network to No Mercy 2005 and watch this match. His performance, selling Eddie Guerrero's internal battle between old tricks and newfound friendship, was startling. When motivated, Cole is one hell of an announcer.

Now, on with the match itself.

The main story, that aforementioned war Eddie had between using proven heel tactics or staying true to a fair fight, was excellent stuff. Batista also played his role perfectly, and both guys ended up working a match that sometimes flowed better than anything big Dave managed with Triple H earlier in '05. That's some high praise.

There's so much to enjoy here, and it's totally worth watching the pre-match video package just to get up to speed with the story. A compelling angle, a world class worker (Guerrero), an ever-improving force (Batista), bags of drama and a worthwhile finish make this one of the best forgotten pay-per-view headliners in history.
