How did this fall off the map as much as it has?

Fresh off her heel turn on Candice LeRae a month-and-a-half prior, NXT TakeOver: Toronto II saw the Stardom legend produce one of TakeOver's greatest non-title bouts up against the Poison Pixie. That Shirai suplexed LeRae atop the announce table within the first minute set the mood perfectly.

The remainder of this was fresh, compelling professional wrestling. You may remember Candice's savage reverse Frankensteiner as a significant highlight, and rightfully so; it was beyond graceful. Io's top-rope backflip - and landing on her feet - to evade a top-rope German suplex was equally as alluring.

This served as the best possible follow-up to Io's heel turn. Arguably one of NXT's most enthralling turns, the Joshi Judas was more captivating as a heel against Candice than she ever was as a babyface. From her mesmerising entrance, to her unique mannerisms throughout the match, Shirai had turned up a level at a point where the women's division in NXT needed it most.

Respect must also be placed in LeRae's direction, though. She played her role to sheer perfection on this August 2019 event, from ambushing the future Women's Champion before the bell, to attempting literal neck compression with that aforementioned reverse 'rana. Two all-time great NXT performers unsurprisingly made for a first-rate TakeOver clash.
