10 Former Cruiserweight Champions: Where Are They Now?
4. Billy Kidman
Billy Kidman was a Cruiserweight star for both WCW and WWE. Though lacking in charisma, Kidman was a vital cornerstone of both company’s midcards, and he was an exciting in-ring competitor with a breathtaking Shooting Star Press finisher.
Once publicly derided by Hulk Hogan for his small stature and bland looks, Kidman visibly slowed down in his later years, but he was still a steady presence in WWE. His popularity saw him play a tweener role during the Invasion angle, and he actually won the Cruiserweight Championship on his very first SmackDown match. He lost it in a unification match to X-Pac shortly afterwards, but amassed a total of seven Cruiserweight Title reigns across his 14-year career.
Kidman has stayed in the wrestling business since retiring. He was released from WWE in 2005, but returned to help train wrestler’s in the company’s Florida Championship Wrestling developmental territory in 2007. Kidman’s last official match came in a losing effort to Afa Jr. in February 2008, and he was appointed a full-time producer/road agent by WWE two years later.
Eagle-eyed WWE fans can still catch Kidman making the odd WWE TV appearance here and there. He was most recently seen helping break-up a fight between Dolph Ziggler and AJ Styles on the August 23rd edition of SmackDown, and looks to have a job for life behind the scenes.
