10 Future AEW World Champions
2. Kenny Omega
AEW has got plenty of things right in its first year as a wrestling promotion. The slow-rise of Hangman Page, the establishment of Chris Jericho as an old territory-style heel, Jon Moxley, the tag team division and plenty more. The booking of Kenny Omega might not strike most fans as another positive, but take a closer look and the curious positioning of the man many believed to be a megastar in waiting makes more sense.
AEW could quite easily have pushed Kenny Omega to the moon from the get-go. The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion was arguably the biggest star outside the WWE bubble, a man capable of uniquely incredible matches who has the personality and charisma to back it all up. For years, fans threw praise at Kenny, placing the 'best in the world' crown upon his curly hair.
Booking him as the top star from the start may have led to a backlash against Omega, an undeniable star who fans must remember is relatively new to the mainstream American audience. AEW has spent the first few months establishing him as an elite in-ring performer, giving the occasional glimpse of the talent we all know is there but not overdoing it. Those days will come, and they will come soon.
Currently a tag team champion alongside Hangman Page, there is every chance that Kenny Omega will be the next AEW World Champion. He might have to turn on his partner to get to that level, but stranger things have happened.
