10 G1 Climax 27 Matches That You Need To See
1. Tetsuya Naito Vs. Kenny Omega (13/8/2017)
It was the final that most people expected and, while it took a few sharp turns along the way, it’s what we got. The question was, could Omega and Naito live up to the expectation and the matches that had come before? Of course they could, silly.
This was a fight that was defined by two terrifying moments. In the first, Naito went for a piledriver through a table on the floor. Unfortunately, he slipped, and he and Omega tumbled to the ground in a heart-stopping moment where it was a miracle neither of them was hurt. For the second it is unclear whether it was intended or not, but it saw Omega DDTing Naito from the top rope onto the ring post. If it had connected full on, it could have been a catastrophe.
Neither of those took away from the brilliance of this match. Omega and Naito gave their everything as they hit a pace that shouldn't have been possible after weeks of shows. In the end, Omega was introduced to his Destino and four years after the New Japan crowd rejected him Naito picked up the win before being treated to a hero’s ovation. That’s how you do it.
