10 Genius Ways Wrestlers Outsmarted Their Opponents
3. Brock Lesnar – SmackDown 2003
Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle’s feud in 2003 was fantastic. It only gets better with age when you look back on it and notice the nuances they worked into their matches and storyline throughout their near-year long feud.
In the run-up to WrestleMania 19 Angle outsmarted Brock in March by quickly rolling him up for a pinfall after Brock got distracted with Kurt’s older brother Eric. At Vengeance Angle reclaimed the WWE Championship from Lesnar (after losing it to him at ‘Mania) in a gripping Triple Threat match. This led to Brock furiously turning heel on Angle and trying to get back his WWE title. At SummerSlam Angle tapped out Lesnar in the middle of the ring but the feud wasn’t over as Angle and Lesnar were booked into an Iron Man match for the WWE Championship on SmackDown that would once and for all conclude their feud.
10 minutes into the Iron Man Lesnar shockingly got himself disqualified by smashing Kurt with repeated steel chair shots to the back, making Kurt have a 1-0 lead. It would be revealed though this was a tactical strategy for The Beast Incarnate, as he completely outsmarted Angle by weakening him to the point Lesnar easily got the 3-1 lead and would ultimately would win the match and the WWE Championship through these means, with the final score being 5-4 to Lesnar.
