10 Gimmicks WWE Cancelled For Being TOO SUCCESSFUL

1. The Stooges

Rusev Day Vince McMahon
WWE Network

Expecting somebody else? Hell, probably, because few could've predicted that creaky old-timers Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco would head up this list. They're here though, and with good reason. Together, Pat and Brisco acted as goofy sidekicks to Vince McMahon's heel character throughout the 'Attitude Era'.

'The Stooges' were happy to look like chumps.

Seeing two respected veterans willingly make clowns of themselves was fun enough, but Patterson and Brisco were so good in the role that they started to hear some cheers. According to Gerald, this is why McMahon decided to stop spotlighting his 'Stooges' - he was concerned that their face reactions would encroach on his heel heat, which is probably true.

Signs started popping up for the pair on Raw, and that was the final straw for Vince. 'The Stooges' stopped being such an ongoing concern in mid-2000, but not before they worked an infamous lingerie match at the King Of The Ring pay-per-view.
